AKELARRE
Seppe Seyner & Jon Aparicio _ Collaboration
Belgium _ Competition, HORST ArtsMusic Festival
AKELARRE is a shared space within Horst Arts & Music Festival. It offers a place to slow down in an environment defined by intensity, movement and constant stimulation. Instead of competing with the energy of the festival, the project creates a different rhythm — one based on closeness, shared presence and time spent together.
The project takes its name from the akelarre: a gathering that historically brought people together across differences. In this sense, the pavilion understands architecture as a space to meet. A temporary structure where simply being together becomes the main purpose.
The spatial setup is simple. An inward-facing pavilion creates a more contained and calm space, while a series of small interventions extend into the surrounding site. Together, they allow different ways of gathering, from more intimate moments to open and informal use.
The pavilion is built mainly from reused fritz-kola crates, sourced from the brand’s existing logistics cycle. Through repetition and dry assembly, the crates work as structure, enclosure and furniture at the same time. This approach keeps the construction light, reversible and easy to assemble and dismantle.
AKELARRE is not a fixed object. It changes through use, movement and rearrangement. The space is shaped by the people who occupy it, turning the project into a shared, temporary experience.
