FRAME PAVILION
Atelier _ Pedro Domingos _ Bak Gordon
Marvila _ Lisbon _ Portugal
Marvila goes back to its prehistoric times. Over the years, it has developed in an undisciplined manner, always affirmed as a transi- tional territory between rural and urban. Here, of course, the need arises to generate a permeable, versatile and sociocultural piece, infrastructure with systems that manipulate the beauty of light and diffuse shadow along concrete surfaces; of being free or locked up; of being up or down. In a gesture, different spaces are enclosed and infinite activities can be performed. The passage of time and its consolidation with the space reconnects the entire cultural, educa- tional and community spectrum of the area. The constructive poetics between the slenderness of the steel pillars and the heaviness of the sloping concrete roof, emphasize the need to articulate and celebrate past experiences with a conscious vision of the future. The exterior walls that evoke the work of Richard Serra emphasize the idea of intimate space and at the same time the curves welcome you and encourage you to discover the interior space. A place of restlessness, of reconnection, of passage or of stay, of lights and shadows. An appreciable void, a vibrant space, a sensitive skin, a material honesty, a timeless space and an organic geometry. An almost autonomous space, almost ideal.
“The balance of our environment - between the cities, the tows, the arteries, the nature
and all the natural elements that constitute the stage where our lives go by is a true expression of the culture”.
Alvar Aalto.
“The details are not the details. The details are the design.”
Charles Eames.
